You can use a fingernail brush to help scrape the loosened gum from the carpet. Sponge the gum stain directly with cleaning fluid such as 409. These substances will dissolve the polymer compounds in chewing gum reducing its sticky properties so it will be easy to remove the chewing gum from the carpet.
