Gauge Sizes Of Sheet Metal

Kynar galvalume steel for metal roofing and gutters.
Gauge sizes of sheet metal. 0 7 mm 0 8mm and 1 5 mm. 26 gauge 24 gauge 20 gauge 18 gauge 16 gauge 14 gauge 1 8 and 1 4. 0 027 or 0 032 for seamless gutters and any other thickness for custom gutters. The equivalent thicknesses differ for each gauge size standard which were developed based on the weight of the sheet for a given material.
The following sheet metal gauge size reference chart gives the weight and thickness of sheet metal given as a gauge sometimes spelled gage and indicates the standard thickness of sheet metal and wire for most materials as the gauge number increases the material thickness decreases. Gauge numbers continue both to thicker and thinner sections but these charts cover the most common ranges. If the plain metal sheet is glued to a solid substrate such as steel heavy plywood or particle board then 20 gauge 0 040 or 1 00 mm stainless steel is sufficient. The gauge number 18 holds no relevance to the actual measurements.
Charts for aluminum steel stainless steel and galvanized steel sheet are presented here with thicknesses ranging from 1 64 to 1 4 inch. For an identical application in brass alloys which are softer materials we recommend to specify nothing less than 18 or 16 gauge 0 050 or 0 060 1 20 mm or 1 50 mm. A gauge conversion chart can be used to determine the actual thickness of sheet metal in inches or millimeters. For example 18 gauge steel according to a gauge conversion chart is 0 0478 inch or 1 214 millimeter.
